Commissioned by the Durham Light Infantry Association, this is one of two sculptures honouring Victoria Cross winners from the DLI
Thomas Young VC was 23 years old, and a private in the 9th Battalion, The Durham Light Infantry, British Army during the First World War when he was awarded the VC for outstanding bravery. Further details can be found at Wikpedia.org
The original was modelled in clay and is a faithful reproduction of both Thomas Young and of the uniform and insignia that he would have worn at the time.
