The St. Fagans Collection Gwalia Stores Ogmore Vale Mid Glamorgan Built 1860 Re erected 1991 at the Museum of Welsh Life, St. FagansIn 1880 William Llewellyn developed his grocery business by building this shop. The shop originally comprised of the central section flanked by a storeroom on the left and Llewellyn's house on the right. During the early 1900 s the sales area was extended to the house and the first floor to accommodate a bakery, ironmongers, grocery, chemist and gentlemen' s outfitters. Members of staff slept in the attic and were paid 8 shillings a week. William Llewellyn died 1924 at which time his sons took over the business continuing to trade until 1973 when the Stores were finally closed |
